Forum Voices
Forum users praise the algorithm’s simplicity and potential applications.
Love it! I was looking at this a little while ago, and used some of The Pudding’s data on makeup/foundation shades and plotted it into the Oklab colorspace.
Others appreciate the presentation and potential for character design.
This part is especially cool. Would love to see this 3-D picker ability in the many character designers out there, instead of the lame 8 swatches or whatever.
Technical Details
Researchers use a function fitting approach to generate skin tones, rather than PCA or U-space vectors.
Manual data labeling is used, which may introduce bias, but results are consistent.
