Some users are excited about the Bonsai 27B model, while others are skeptical about its performance.
What I most want to see it compared to is Gemma 4 12B in the 4-bit QAT version. It’s barely bigger than this at just under 7GB, so it also runs on just about any modern device and is remarkably smart for its size.
Others are concerned about the model’s ability to retain intelligence from its parent model.
I need help understanding this. I understood that the magic here is the quantization that allows it to use from 50G to 4G and their process retain most of the intelligence within Pareto limits of gain.
Comparison with Other Models
The Bonsai 27B model is compared to other models like Qwen 3.5 4B, with some users finding it worse in performance.
I still don’t see the point of this. In my testing, it’s worse than Qwen 3.5 4B and even 0.8B.
